Summer Intensive

For the past seven summers, Ballet Arts has provided the dancers of Jackson and the surrounding areas with a two week program of intensive dance training.

Guest teachers have come from the Miami City Ballet, Louisville Ballet, the Alabama Ballet, the University of Cincinnati, Ballet Arts, Broadway Dance Center, Joffrey Ballet, Dance Theatre of Harlem, Birmingham Royal Ballet, and Ballet Quad Cities as well as a member of the Vienna production of Cats.

This year’s teachers are Kevin Martin, former Ballet Master at the Nutmeg Conservatory of the Arts; Joellen Wojtowicz, full-time faculty member and Youth Director of Fort Wayne Ballet; Emily Patterson-Nicholas, former dancer with the Joffrey Ballet; Thomas Nicholas, current dancer with the Joffrey Ballet; and, Nora Cherry, choreographer and dancer from Franklin, TN, as well as former cast member of Cats in Vienna.

The dates for the 2010 intensive are June 14 - 25.  Session one is June 14 - 18 and session two is June 21 - 25.  There is also a mini session both weeks for ages 9 1/2 to 12 year olds.  The price for the regular session is $850 for two weeks and $475 for one week.  The price for the mini session is $650 for two weeks and $375 for one week.  A non-refundable $100 deposit is requested with the application no later than April 15.  A copy of the dancer’s birth certificate is also requested if not a member of Ballet Arts.

Participants may enroll for one week or both weeks. Dancers will participate in classes including ballet, pointe, modern, jazz, and musical theatre. They will participate in discussions on dance history, nutrition, and dancer wellness.
