Auditions

Welcome!

Our 39th annual production of The Nutcracker will be performed December 11-13, 2020 at the Carl Perkins Civic Center.  This spring we look forward to our production of Alice in Wonderland, which will be held on March 19- 21, 2020 at the Carl Perkins Civic Center.

The company is structured in three parts:

  • Apprentice Membership
  • Junior Performing Membership
  • Senior Performing Membership.

*Some considerations to accommodate college or high school graduates are available and should be discussed with the Artistic Director.

Age Requirements:

An Apprentice member must be 10 years old on or by July 31, 2020, and have at least two years of formal ballet training and be dancing at an upper beginner level or intermediate level.

Performing members (Junior and Senior members) must be at least 13 years old on or by July 31, 2020`.  Pointe work should be suitable for intermediate and above level (usually, but not limited to, four or more years).

Audition Dates:

Auditions will be separated into two days this year.

  • Performing Member auditions will be held Saturday, August 22th
  • Apprentice Member auditions will be held Saturday, August 29th

Both auditions will be held at the Ballet Arts Studio. There will be an option for those that wish to stay at home and take the auditions online.  We will be conducting a live-stream zoom video on both dates for auditions. There is a $25 non-refundable audition fee due at the time of the audition.

We are asking that everyone attending auditions in person, or virtually, must register online by filling out the audition form on www.balletartsjackson.org by Wednesday, August 19th.

CDC Requirements:

As recommended by the CDC, we will be allowing only ten students into a room at a time for auditions to maintain six feet apart at all times.  It is imperative that you register your child prior to auditions!  This lets us know how many students will be attending, and how many time slots we will need to offer.  Once you have registered you will be contacted with a specific time for your child’s audition.  Our auditions will range from 8 AM to 2PM.

Those who do not  register by August 19th will not be admitted into auditions, and therefore will be disqualified from our 2020- 2021 season.

Yearly Fees:

Yearly fees for ALL company members are $350 per year. It can be paid all at once or in two payments. Balances must be paid in full by September 21st.  It is the desire of the Board of Directors that no dancer is excluded from participation in the company due to financial constraints.  Our Member Care Committee will be happy to hear about any problems you may have with the fee schedule.

As with any non-profit organization, volunteer work is vastly important to the smooth running of the organization.  This is especially true for Ballet Arts, Inc. because we are a volunteer staffed organization.  There is a place for each and every one of you and you are needed!  Our parents and Friends of Ballet Arts logged in over 8,000 hours of volunteer time in some years.  That is impressive for such a small organization and our parents are to be commended!  Tabitha AtKisson, our Friends and Family coordinator, will be available to answer questions you have regarding the many committees.

The Day of Your Audition:

Arriving at your audition you and your guardian will be required to wear a face mask when checking in as stated by the Madison County Regional Health Department.  We will be conducting temperature checks before allowing entrance into the building. You will not be allowed in the building if you have a 100.4 or higher temperature.  Students and guardians are encouraged to stay home if they have symptoms of fever, cough, shortness of breath. . .etc.  Only until you are inside the studio and at a designated spot can you remove your mask.  Students will not be required to wear masks throughout the audition, but they are not discouraged either.
