Volunteer Executive Director

Ballet Arts, Inc. is seeking to find an Executive Director to lead the day-to-day operations of the organization. This is a volunteer position for the 2024-25 season. Job Summary

The responsibility of the Executive Director is to actively engage with the community, Ballet Arts members and supporters, donors, sponsors, businesses and agencies to advance the mission of Ballet Arts by enriching the community through classical ballet. The Executive Director is responsible to lead the day-to-day operations of the Company and the newly established Academy. The Executive Director will report to the Board of Directors through the Board President and work closely with the Artistic Director in fulfilling the business plan set forth by the Board of Directors for overall advancement of the organization.

Primary Responsibilities Include

Organization Leadership

As Chief Executive of Ballet Arts, oversee the efficient and effective day-to-day operation of the organization. As a non-voting member of the Board of Directors, this position will coordinate with the President all Board and Committee meetings, plan and coordinate Strategic Planning in conjunction with the Board President, and perform additional duties as requested by the Board for the betterment of Ballet Arts.

Operational Planning and Management

Assess, recommend, and implement systems and structures to improve operations and enhance community engagement; implement the already established business plan incorporating goals and objectives to achieve the strategic direction of the organization; review, modify and create policy, as needed; oversee the Capital Campaign, leading event planning and follow-up on pledges; and coordinate with Security Committee to maintain safe and secure performances.

External Relations

Working with the chair of the Board Marketing Committee, develop a comprehensive marketing, public relations and external communications plan for the organization; establish collaborative relationships with individuals and organizations whose missions align with Ballet Arts; manage volunteer efforts to effectively serve the organization; take a leadership role in the arts community; identify, develop and nurture diverse community relationships; work to keep the organization’s outward facing presence current through website and social media.

Financial Management

Working with the Treasurer and Board Finance Committee, prepare annual budget; ensure that sound financial practices are established and followed; manage organization finances according to the approved budget; monitor monthly cash flow, income and expenses of the organization; and provide Board with regular comprehensive financial reports.  

Lead Fundraising and Development Efforts

Establish, build and maintain ongoing relationships with new and existing donors, sponsors, businesses, local & state government agencies. Working closely with the chair of the Board Fundraising Committee, the Executive Director will work to obtain and sustain the funding necessary to ensure annual revenue goals are met or exceeded in order to fulfill the organization’s mission and goals. 

Qualifications/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree (Business, Marketing, or a related field preferred) or equivalent work experience.

  • Previous management and operational experience; non-profit experience and knowledge of classical ballet and dance preferred.

  • Strong interpersonal, communication and leadership skills, including the ability to inspire, collaborate, negotiate, compromise, and take initiative.

  • Proven entrepreneurial spirit with a “roll up your sleeves” mentality for achieving results.

  • Enthusiasm for and achievement in fundraising; creativity, innovation and ability to develop new and unique approaches to fundraising and volunteer management.

  • Solid administrative skills; ability to focus, plan, prioritize and follow through, think strategically, conceptualize & analyze projects critically.

  • Excellent judgement with the decisiveness and resourcefulness to anticipate and respond to opportunities and effective under pressure.

  • Proven financial management skills preferred including experience developing and managing budgets.

  • High integrity; an enthusiasm and tenacity to make things happen; a connection to the mission.

Compensation: This is an unpaid volunteer position through June 30, 2025. Compensation for the 2025-26 season will be commensurate with position requirements, experience and qualifications.
